Primate Behavior and Conservation field course

The Semliki Chimpanzee Project is now accepting applications for its Primate Behavior and Conservation field course in Uganda, running from July 15–31, 2026. Students may participate on either a credit or non-credit basis.

 

This immersive program offers an in-depth exploration of Ugandan culture, geography, and wildlife. Participants will be guided by instructors with decades of experience alongside local Ugandan experts. Highlights of the curriculum and itinerary include:

 

- Expert Instruction: Lectures on conservation and wildlife by representatives from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

- Cultural & Historical Sites: Visits to Kampala to learn about Ugandan independence, local markets in Ntoroko, Karagutu, and Fort Portal, a tea plantation, and a self-sustaining smallholder family farm.

- Wildlife Encounters: Visits to the Entebbe Zoo, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Lake Albert to see rare species such as the shoebill stork. The program also includes gorilla trekking in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

- Field Experience: Living in tents in Semliki, surrounded by diverse wildlife including chimpanzees, forest elephants, and various primate species.
