Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for EFP
In agreement with the EFP Board, EDI is now an official EFP Committee. At each conference, the EDI for EFP will highlight one major EDI topic in order to promote reflection, discussion, and concrete action within our community.
For the 2026 conference, the EDI chose one of the most visible—and yet still deeply challenging—topics: Gender in Primatology.
The EDI's aims go beyond the conference itself, though, and further initiatives are planned to support EDI within the community more broadly, so stay tuned! If you are interested in joining the EDI for EFP, or have any inquiries or requests, please contact them here below:
European Commission Expert Working Group
The Working Group aims to to provide guidance and guidelines on the application of the Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used in scientific procedures.
Since 2010, EFP Board Member Augusto Vitale has represented the EFP in the EWG, actively contributing to the preparation of guidelines on different issues.

2016: Second-generation, purpose-bred Non-Human Primates for research
In 2016 EFP was asked to officially register in the Transparency Register of the European Commission for interest groups participating in EWG for issues related to the application and interpretation of the EU Directive 1010/63.
In 2017 EFP was called to participate, among other 12 interest groups, to a public hearing organised by the SCHEER Committee on the future of research with Non-Human Primates in EU Member States in Luxembourg.
ManyPrimates: Establishing a culture of collaboration in primate cognition research
The ManyPrimates project was initiated to facilitate collaboration across study sites in primate cognition research. By joining forces, this initiative hopes to address important outstanding questions that individual labs can not answer by themselves.
